Runner Bhim Gurung wins gold in China
KATHMANDU, May 1: Nepali runner Bhim Gurung bagged gold medal in China during the Yading Skyrun, the first run of the Skyrunner World Series, held in Sichuan, China on Saturday.
Bhim clocked 3 hours 8 minutes and 30 seconds to complete the distance of 30 km to win the race held at altitudes ranging from 3,000 m to 5,000 m. Winner Bhim bagged US$ 3,000 as well.
Italian national Tadei Pivk clocked 3 hours 10 minutes and 18 seconds to finish second while Marc Casal Mir of Andorra came third clocking 3 hours 14 minutes and 8 seconds.
Bhim's victory came out of the blue as Tadei and Marc were leading in the beginning.
According to the hosts, winning time in the men's section had been estimated between 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours. However, Bhim completed earlier than expected.
Pivk, who finished just two minutes behind Bhim, said, "I tried as hard as I could, but he was so fast on the downhill, I couldn't keep up."
Mira Rai finishes runner-up in England
Utra-runner Mira Rai finished second in the 37.4 km Three Pix Race held in England on Saturday. Mira has participated in a number of races recently with world records under her belt. She won gold medals in Asian Ultra Marathon of 50 km held in Hong Kong and World Championship of 80 km held in France last year.
Similarly, Mira is set to run in the 75 km, 105 km and 110 km events to be held in n Spain as well as 55 km race in Portugal.
